Why A Pediatric Dentist

How is a Pediatric Dentist different from a General Dentist?

Pediatric Dentistry is a specialty of dentistry that focuses only on children, adolescents and children with special needs. They are often called the pediatricians of teeth and sometimes are known as developmental dentists. After completing four years of dental school, the dentist must complete two to three additional years of rigorous training to become a pediatric dentist. These additional years of training allow for the pediatric dentist to understand the special dental and emotional needs of growing children. Additionally, a pediatric dentist has had formal training in behavioral and sedation techniques that are often used to deliver safe and comfortable dental treatment to children. Parents who want to provide the ultimate dental care for the children choose pediatric dentists.
